The Castle Pharmacy
The Castle Pharmacy
The newest attraction in Třeboň is the Castle Pharmacy, which opened as recently as May 2022. The pharmacy was restored in honor of the Renaissance magnate Petr Vok of Rožmberk, who was active in the Třeboň region and was also the first owner of the house. A permanent exhibition is dedicated to him, showcasing how Petr Vok lived in the 16th and 17th centuries, what his ideas and interests were, and what his life might look like in the 21st century.
Petr Vok purchased the original townhouses so he could store his collections of paintings, books, and art objects there, with the resulting collection intended to be directly connected to the castle. After Petr Vok’s death, the palace used the house’s premises to accommodate guests, while a pharmacist lived on the ground floor, which is how the house got its nickname. The house is a national cultural monument; its renovation cost 140 million crowns, with more than two-thirds of the repair funds provided by the European Union.
Today, the building is used to host various interesting exhibitions, lectures, concerts, theater performances, and workshops. You can view the current program on the Castle Pharmacy website.
