Třeboň Castle

Třeboň Castle is one of the largest castles in the Czech Republic. Its origins date back to around the 13th century, and since then, the manor and later the castle have been owned by several noble families. You are surely familiar with the Rožmberk family and the famous Petr Vok, under whose rule Třeboň flourished.

After him, the castle was inherited by the Švamberk family, from whom it was confiscated, and in the 17th century it was purchased by the Schwarzenberg family (who also owned, for example, Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle).

The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park and walls. You enter the castle courtyard from the main Masaryk Square and can then proceed to the smaller courtyard, where various cultural events take place during the summer months. Three beautiful gates lead from the large courtyard into the castle park.

Here you can admire the floral arrangements and find the entrance to the Třeboň Nature Exhibition. It is dedicated to the nature and landscape of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area, the spa industry, fish farming, and the development of the landscape’s economic use. It will particularly appeal to children—they’ll find interactive elements, wax figures of fish farmers, and displays of the fauna and flora of the Třeboň region. At the end is a video room where you can watch several films about the Třeboň region.

A large part of the castle houses the depositories of the State Regional Archives. Among other things, the Rožmberk Archive, one of the most valuable aristocratic archives, is located here. Many of the archival documents are recognized as cultural monuments; the oldest document on file dates back to 1184.

Třeboň Castle is frequently used for various cultural events (concerts, exhibitions, theater and dance performances, etc.) and wedding ceremonies. For these purposes, the Schwarzenberg Hall was renovated in 2005; it has a capacity of up to 80 seats, which fully meet the needs of those interested. This space is suitable for conferences and lectures, corporate events, and a wide variety of cultural programs.

The castle is very popular as a wedding venue.

An interesting feature is the annual Amaryllis flower exhibition, held every April–May.
