Telč

Telč lies halfway between Prague and Vienna. The town, often nicknamed the “Venice of Moravia,” is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s no wonder—the historic center, surrounded by ponds and gates, truly lives up to the name. It acquired its current fairy-tale appearance in the 16th century during the reign of Zachariáš of Hradec, thanks to whom the town began to gradually flourish, making it a great choice for a pleasant visit and relaxation.

The Telč Castle, located on the banks of the Telč Stream, is one such gem. Originally a moated castle, it was converted into a Renaissance residence in the mid-16th century, as you can see during tours through the castle’s cellars, where remnants of the original castle remain. In addition, you’ll also see the castle gallery with fairy-tale costumes and props, as well as the opulent salons of the last owners. One of the greatest beauties of Telč Castle, however, are the grand halls, especially the Golden Hall with its coffered carved ceiling. Don’t forget to visit the castle garden, which is one of the oldest architectural gardens in the Czech Republic.
