Landštejn Castle

The ruins of Landštejn Castle are a landmark of Czech Canada (also known as the Jindřichův Hradec region), which you can visit during your stay at our Dvorce guesthouse. It’s not far away; it lies near the Třeboň region—specifically the towns and villages around Jindřichův Hradec—Počátky, Nová Včelnice, Deštná, Červená Lhota Castle, Stráž nad Nežárkou, and even Třeboň, Kunžak, as well as the forests around Nová Bystřice and Landštejn Castle.

The ruins are located in Landštejn, part of the municipality of Staré Město pod Landštejnem in the South Bohemian Region, east of the town of Nová Bystřice and 3 km northwest of Staré Město.

Landštejn is a massive castle with a Romanesque core; it was destroyed by fire in 1771 and abandoned. It is one of three preserved Romanesque castles in the Czech Republic and one of the most significant Romanesque monuments in Central Europe. It has undergone reconstruction in recent years; here you can visit, for example, an exhibition describing the castle’s history, local archaeological finds, and medieval weapons.

We recommend climbing to the top of the tower, which has been converted into an observation deck, from where you can enjoy a view of the deep forests of Czech Canada.

April, October: Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
May, September: daily except Mondays, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
June through August: daily except Mondays, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
November through March: Castle closed

Landštejn Castle is the seventh most visited castle or chateau in the South Bohemian Region.

You can take a trip to Landštejn by bike or car; there is a parking lot below the castle. The journey there is about 40 km from our guesthouse, and other attractions in Czech Canada are also worth visiting.
