Holašovice

Holašovice (German: Hollschowitz) is a village in southern Bohemia in the České Budějovice District, located about 15 km west of České Budějovice and forming part of the municipality of Jankov. The unique collection of buildings here, built in the so-called rural Baroque style of the 1870s, forms a distinctive ensemble that has been a village heritage reserve since 1995 and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998.

A Walk Through Holašovice

The village consists of 23 listed farmsteads with a total of 120 buildings, which form a cohesive historic complex, including barns, granaries, stables, cottages, granaries, gates, and various fences. The farmsteads are arranged around the perimeter of a large rectangular village green measuring approximately 210 by 70 meters.

The medieval layout of the individual farmsteads—with the gable facades of residential houses and granaries—is almost entirely preserved, connected by enclosure walls with gates and arched entrances leading into the village green. This layout, together with the preserved stucco decoration of the so-called folk or peasant Baroque style on most of the facades, gives the entire settlement a unique atmosphere and character. It transports visitors to the environment of a village settlement as it was shaped by complex architectural and artistic developments in the second half of the 19th century.

Holašovice is located 41 km from the Třeboň Dvorce Guesthouse.
