Hluboká nad Vltavou
Hluboká nad Vltavou
Hluboká nad Vltavou—one of the most beautiful castles in the Czech Republic and a jewel of South Bohemia. In this sprawling complex, you’ll feel like you’re in a fairy tale; the second most-visited castle in the Czech Republic, for example, served as the setting for the film adaptation of *The Proud Princess*.
The castle is built in the Neo-Gothic style; its current appearance is attributed to the Schwarzenberg family, who resided there until 1939. Jan Adolf II and his wife Eleonora played the largest role in its construction; they drew inspiration for the renovation of their residence in the Tudor and Elizabethan styles during their travels through England.
Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle is open year-round; during the tour, you can visit the state rooms and private quarters, and you can also climb the tower or peek into the castle kitchen. Another major attraction is the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery. Nearby, you’ll also find the Ohrada Zoo, the Adrenalin Park with plenty of attractions for all ages, and a golf course. Hluboká is easily accessible by car or bike, or you can take a sightseeing boat from České Budějovice.
