Rožmberk Pond
Rožmberk Pond
The “South Bohemian Sea”—that’s the nickname given to the largest pond in the Czech Republic. It’s a great spot for swimming and relaxing. It’s also used for fish farming. The pond’s dam is over 2 kilometers long and is overgrown with centuries-old oak trees, their crowns home to various species of birds. The oaks form a beautiful avenue where you can enjoy a wonderful walk accompanied by the singing of birds nesting on the pond’s shore. In the fall and winter, you may spot a few rare white-tailed eagles.
An educational trail for cyclists runs around the pond, featuring eight informational stops. It is suitable for both young and older visitors. It is also a great place for swimming and relaxing after a busy day of hiking or cycling.
Another nearby landmark is the Rožmberk Bastion, a two-story building where the pond’s caretaker once lived. It is the only Renaissance building in the entire Czech Republic that has been preserved to this day.
