Rožmberk Pond
Rožmberk Pond
The “South Bohemian Sea” is the nickname given to the largest pond in the Czech Republic. It is an ideal spot for swimming and relaxation. It is also used for fish farming. The pond’s dam is over 2 kilometers long and is overgrown with centuries-old oak trees, their crowns home to various species of birds. The oaks form a beautiful avenue where you can enjoy a wonderful walk accompanied by the singing of birds nesting on the pond’s shore. In the fall and winter, you may spot a few rare white-tailed eagles.
An educational trail for cyclists runs around the pond, featuring eight informational stops. It is suitable for both young and older visitors. It is also a great place for swimming and relaxing after a demanding day of hiking or cycling.
Another nearby landmark is the Rožmberk Bastion, a two-story building where the pond’s caretaker once lived. It is the only Renaissance building in the entire Czech Republic that has survived to this day.
