Around the World or Rožmberk

By bike or on foot, you can set out on a 15-km loop that will take you right into the heart of Třeboň. Much of the route also follows the “Around the World” Nature Trail, where you’ll learn many interesting facts not only about the pond itself but also about the history of fish farming in the Třeboň region. The pond was established with the construction of a dam as early as the 16th century, and its waters feed the Spolský Stream.

Although the pond is primarily used for fish farming today, it also serves recreational purposes. You’ll find two swimming areas and a marina for pleasure boats here, and rowing competitions are held on the water. A walk along the dam, shaded by 300-year-old oak trees, is definitely worth the effort.

If you’re in the mood for a longer day trip, you can set out from here all the way to Rožmberk Pond. It’s 8 km from our guesthouse to the dam of the largest pond not only in the Czech Republic. If you plan a round-trip tour around Rožmberk from here, you’ll cover a beautiful 27 km. The pond was founded by the renowned fish farmer Jakub Krčín of Jelčany in the 16th century. Its dam measures 2,355 m, and you might be surprised to learn that you can observe the curvature of the Earth from the pond. Rožmberk is used for fish farming, and its annual harvest is always a major social event that draws people from all over the country.
